SIMPLE PAST TENSE
INTERROGATIVE AND NEGATIVE: USE OF "DID"
The children wrote the description on their folders. Past
Did the children write the description on their folders? Interrogative
The children did not write the description on their folders. Negative
The use of DID: DID + subject + verb in present + rest of the sentence + ?
El uso de Did en el interrogativo: es un auxiliar para preguntar. No se traduce. Si una oración empieza con DID sabemos que es una pregunta. El verbo en este caso ya no va a estar en pasado, sino en presente.
My dogs ate that food.
Did my dogs eat that food?
En el caso de querer negar un suceso en el pasado la forma correcta es:
Subject + DID NOT + verb in present + rest of the sentence.
My dogs did not eat that food.
